Elisabetta Cipriani invites internationally renowned sculptors and painters to create wearable art that comes to life with the use of precious materials. Since 2009 the gallery has exclusively collaborated with established contemporary artists, including Carlos Cruz-Diez, Rebecca Horn, Ilya and Emilia Kabakov, Jannis Kounellis, Giorgio Vigna, and Ai Weiwei.

The collaboration is as appealing as it is challenging for the artists, as they often find themselves exploring the realm of precious materials and wearable objects for the very first time. In each project the artists fuse their artistic disciplines, concepts, and poetics. The starting point is the encounter with the artist—whether planned or unexpected—which begins the challenge to create a wearable sculpture, not only precious, but also capable of expressing a new identity. This identity is the result of the artist’s creativity, dialogue with the gallerist, and the personality of whoever chooses to wear it.

In February 2018 Elisabetta Cipriani established EC Lab, a project that aims to promote and encourage experimentation and creativity in a new generation of artists. Cipriani believes it is important to support the visions of young visual artists and designers, and the Lab encourages them to express the cultural languages of our time through the creation of limited edition wearable artworks. Challenging traditional aesthetics and proposing different uses of materials, these practitioners bring fresh approaches to the medium and shape fascinating pieces filled with symbolism. The opening of EC Lab also contributes to expanding the gallery’s circle of collectors of wearable art and reaches those who are keen on exploring this medium for the first time.
